SUSAN ROTHENBERG
born 1945

Susan Rothenberg moved her head during the exposure of Harvey Stein's photograph. The result is an eerie portrait of an artist whose emblematic paintings of horses and human figures diffused through feathery brushwork have been called lonely, mysterious, and intensely psychological. In the early 1980s Rothenberg was praised as one of the first painters to bring her medium convincingly past the conceptual art of the previous decade.
