FRED WILSON
         born 1954

fred wilson Jen Fong photographed Fred Wilson among some of the objects he uses in his installations, which emphasize the need for more complete representation of diverse communities in modern museums. Wilson's pathbreaking work—raising awareness of those often excluded from traditional art and social history—won him a MacArthur Foundation Award in 1999. Although Wilson is sometimes criticized for being radically didactic, many museums have invited him to help reevaluate their collections and exhibitions.
