Judging will be done by a panel of experts, who will initially select approximately 120 semifinalists. On or before November 15, 2005, the National Portrait Gallery will contact artists who have been selected as semifinalists via e-mail, or via U.S. mail if the entry was mailed in.
Artists whose work was not selected for further consideration will also be notified at this time. Semifinalist works will be shipped, at the Gallerys expense, to Washington, D.C., for further judging from the original paintings and sculptures. Upon notification of semifinalist status, entrants will be required to sign an affidavit confirming their age, identity, originality of the work, and ownership of the work and all rights pertaining to it.
On or before March 15, 2006, approximately 50 to 60 finalists whose work has been selected for the exhibition, including those awarded prizes, will be notified. Work not selected will be returned to the artists to an address within the United States provided by the artist.
