Please print this sheet of instructions and visit the Web site between June 1 and September 6, 2005, to submit your entry. See also Rules of Entry and Frequently Asked Questions.
You may submit one entry to the competition in one of two ways.
Online entry and image: You will need to fill out an online entry form and upload images to the competition Web site. For a painting, submit one or two JPEG images; for a sculpture, submit up to four images. EACH FILE SHOULD BE NO LARGER THAN 3 MEGABYTES. The entry fee is $25, payable online by credit card. By submitting an online entry form, the artist is agreeing to be notified by e-mail if he or she is chosen as a potential finalist or winner of the Portrait Competition.
Mail-in entry and slide image: Up to 500 paper entry forms, accompanied by slides of the portrait, will be accepted on a
first-come-first-served basis. During the Call for Entries period, you may submit one or two slides for a painting and up to four slides for a sculpture. The entry fee will be $35, payable by credit card, certified check, or money order. Please note that paper entry forms will not be available until May 15, 2005. After that date, please request a paper entry form from portraitcompetition@npg.si.edu. (We will e-mail the form unless you specifically request U.S. mail.) In order to ensure fairness, we are unable to accept requests for paper entry forms before May 15. All fees are nonrefundable. Incomplete entry forms will not be processed.

You will have the opportunity to answer the following questions about your work in discrete text fields, which will be available to the jurors. These fields are optional.

At this point, you will be e-mailed a confirmation of payment and entry, with a unique identifying number.
Uploading your images For online entry, you will be given instructions for uploading your digital JPEG image files (up to 3 megabytes per file). You may upload up to two files for a painting, and up to four files for sculpture, to allow for multiple viewing angles.
Entry Confirmation Once your completed entry has been received online or via regular mailincluding entry form, images, and entry feeyou will receive a confirmation e-mail containing a unique identifying number. Please retain this number for your records.
