Artist Statement:
Young Marriage is a double portrait of my wife and me. The compositional construction is based on Giovanni Arnolfini and His Bride by Jan van Eyck. The painting depicts the recent experiences my wife and I have had as we have lived outside of New York, as newlyweds. Located throughout the portrait are symbols associated with a young marriage such as expectation, uncertainty, and sexual desire.
