This is Merf, my recently completed second drawing of Merwin Shaw. The first drawing was called Portrait of Merwin Shaw, but I wanted a new title for this piece and Merwin gave me permission to use his nickname, "Merf."
On his right bicep Merf has a beautifully intricate tattoo which he designed himself and which has deep, personal significance. Comparing this portrait to the first one, Merf mused, "I think I like the face on this one better
and I really like how this one shows my tattoo!"
The gallery in Chicago that represents me is exhibiting Portrait of Merwin (Merf) Shaw and some of my other recent portraits in an international art fair that opened April 16th in New York.
