Eulogy to Marshall

George Marshall's health deteriorated progressively in the last years of his life. The victim of a stroke, he spent his final days in Walter Reed Army Hospital. He died on October 16, 1959. Following his wishes, his funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery was simple and unpretentious, and did not include a eulogy. Bill Mauldin, through his famous World War II characters Willie and Joe, observed the somber event in this untitled cartoon for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
