The editor of the Peale Family Papers is Sidney Hart, who obtained his doctorate from Clark University, where his concentration was the history of early American religion and politics. In addition to his work as a historical editor, he has published essays on the American Enlightenment including " 'To encrease the comforts of Life': Charles Willson Peale and the Mechanical Arts," in The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography 110 (August 1986); (with David C. Ward) "The Waning of an Enlightenment Ideal: Charles Willson Peale's Philadelphia Museum, 1790-1820," The Journal of the Early Republic 8 (Winter 1988); and "The Enlightened City: Charles Willson Peale's Philadelphia Museum in its Urban Setting," in Catherine E. Hutchins, ed., Shaping a National Culture: The Philadelphia Experience, 1750-1800 (Winterthur, Del., 1994)
Senior associate editor David C.
