Born in the Waxhaw Settlement, South Carolina
In October 1840, the city of New Orleans held a silver jubilee celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the American victory over the British in the Battle of New Orleans. This portrait of Andrew Jackson, the aging hero of that battle, was based on a larger oil painting created during the jubilee. James Tooley Jr., a young Mississippi miniaturist, obtained permission to make a copy from the original.

En octubre de 1840, la ciudad de Nueva Orleans celebró el jubileo de plata (vigésimo quinto aniversario) de la victoria de Estados Unidos contra Gran Bretaña en la Batalla de Nueva Orleans.
