A leading member of the first generation of American photographers, Henry Meade was only twenty when he and his brother Charles opened their original daguerreian gallery in Albany, New York, in 1842. After the Meade brothers launched their flagship American Daguerreotype Depot in New York City in 1850, it quickly joined the ranks of the nation’s premier daguerreian establishments.
In 1853 Henry Meade wed Sarah A. Meserole in New York City’s prestigious Trinity Church. The bride’s Huguenot ancestors had been among the first to settle what became known as the Greenpoint and Williamsburg communities in Brooklyn, New York.
